Salary Range
$34,000.00 depending on qualifications
Includes on campus apartment, utilities, and meal plan
Essential Functions
The Building Attendant (Maintenance) is a hands-on maintenance position supporting the University of Texas Permian Basin's residential facilities, including traditional residence halls and apartment-style housing. This role helps ensure safe, clean, and well-maintained living environments for students, staff, and guests. The Building Attendant serves as the first line of response for housing-related maintenance needs, performing basic troubleshooting, routine repairs, and preventive maintenance. While the position reports to Student Housing, it works closely with the University's Physical Plant team, which provides support for higher-skilled or specialized work involving HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a dependable, service-oriented individual who enjoys hands-on work, problem-solving, and contributing to a campus community.
Required Qualifications
1. High school diploma or GED equivalent
2. Three (3) years of general maintenance experience
3. Ability to troubleshoot issues and follow safety procedures
4. Good communication and organizational skills
5. Valid Texas driver's license with a clean record for at least three years
6. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and remain on feet for extended periods, consistent with job demands
7. Ability to work safely around chemicals, equipment, and environmental hazards while adhering to established procedures
Preferred Qualifications
1. Five (5) years of general maintenance experience
2. Experience in residence halls, apartments, hotels, or other multi-occupant facilities
3. Experience in dining or commercial facility maintenance
4. Ability to read, write, and comprehend English

Schedule
Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.

5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
